My Top 6 Breastfeeding Must Haves

Happy World Breastfeeding Week! A week to encourage breastfeeding and celebrate its beauty. This is a bitter sweet post for me. My Daughter Lillian has just recently self weaned. I’m relieved that it was a painless transition but I miss those close snuggles. My first refused to nurse and I exclusively pumped. Lillian was very different.

When we first brought her home she would not wake. I had to pump and feed her with a syringe. Within time she was more alert but never took a bottle even if you tried. I was her fuel source and only me. That’s the way she wanted it.

The first few weeks of nursing can be tiring and painful. I know that’s hard to hear but that is the truth. Funny thing is I don’t remember those struggles now that she’s done. I just have positive and amazing memories. I dealt with mastitis and overproduction but found these products really helped!

1.)   Lansinoh TheraPearl 3-in-1 Hot or Cold Breast Therapy, 2 Count

Ladies, these things are amazing! When I pumped in the morning I would use them warm to get the milk flowing. If I was in pain due to latch or teeth using them cool was oddly refreshing. I have recommended these to so many friends.

2.)  Earth Mama Angel Baby Non GMO Natural Nipple Butter Nursing Cream, Lanolin Free, 2 Ounce

Babies have to learn how to latch. Sure sure breastfeeding is natural but it is a learning curve for baby and Mom. This cream went with me everywhere the first few weeks.

3.)  Ju-Ju-Be Legacy Nautical Collection Fuel Cell Insulated Bottle and Lunch Bag, The Admiral

Did you think I could have a post and not include JuJuBe? The fuel cell was what I used to carry my manual pump when out of the house. With Lillian I only pumped occasionally so my big pump stayed at home. The fuel cell held my manual, a few bottles, all my parts, and a snack or two for me!

4.)  The First Years Breastflow Milk Storage Organizer

Lily didn’t drink from a bottle but I did pump and donate over 1,000 ounces to a local little one. I love being organized in every aspect of life. Even keeping my pumped frozen milk organized by date was helpful to me! My best recommendation for pumping Moms.

5.)  Clip-itz Nursing Cover Clips (Black Paisley & Gray/White Chevron)

Nursing in public can be scary. It’s truly intimating the first few times. For me I wasn’t comfortable at first to not use a cover. But I hated packing a specific nursing cover because they took up space I needed for my important things. Like chocolate for me! These clips attached right to her blanket and I could nurse away. Take off and the blanket can be used as usual or as a car seat cover to block the sun while walking around downtown. Now that she’s done nursing I use these to clip toys to strollers or her pacifier so she can’t toss it! Very useful nursing and beyond.

6.)  Undercover Mama Black and White Nursing Tank Set – Perfect for Breastfeeding, S

Eventually I got brave and didn’t need or want a cover. These tanks are incredible! They attach to your nursing bra and when you nurse you barely show an inch of skin because your stomach is covered and your normal shirt covers your chest. I used these almost every day. So many beautiful colors. And they really compress your mommy tummy so gave me some extra confidence right after delivery.

All of these products I have used and loved. They are packed away and ready when or if number three blesses the Trader family.

I have to sneak in the beautiful breastfeeding photos I got done a few days before Lillian turned one. Happy Breastfeeding Week! Have you tried any of these products? What are your recommendations to others?
